The French Riviera

The French Riviera – also known as la Côte d’Azur – is along the Mediterranean coastline in the southeast corner of France. For centuries it has been a glamorous playground that has also been extolled by doctors for the therapeutic value of its perfect climate and mood-elevating beauty. Fortunately, you don’t have to be super rich to enjoy this paradise. A day spent on its beautiful beaches won’t cost you a cent, and there are many towns to explore on a budget. There are also plenty of reasonably priced Airbnb choices if staying at a posh hotel is cost prohibitive.

Must-See Places

Nice: A vibrant coastal city with a beautiful Promenade des Anglais and a lively Old Town. Villefranche-sur-Mer and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat (part of the Cap-Ferrat peninsula) Saint-Tropez: A glamorous town known for its beaches and luxury atmosphere Gordes: A picturesque hilltop village in Provence often considered one of the most beautiful in France Roussillon: A charming town known for its ochre-colored buildings and stunning views of the Luberon region.

We advise you to rent a car for exploration of this coastal paradise, but if you are unsure of where to go, it’s better to hire a guide inexpensively for day tours. The reviews on them are sparklingly complimentary.
